In January 2010 Airbus opted to develop the -800 as a shrink of the baseline -900, and it was designed to compliment the Airbus A330-200 long-range twin. Due to development costs and the gain factor, airlines turned their attention to the -900. After launching the Airbus A330neo at the 2014 Farnborough Airshow, Airbus dropped the A350-800.
