Home » A Day In The Life Of A USAF E-11 (Bombardier Global XRS/6000) Pilot

The E-11A aircraft is the U.S. Air Force Weapons System used to supply the Battlefield Airborne Communications Node (BACN) mission, which arose out of an urgent operational need to eliminate severe communications lapses and failures which resulted from austere locations, remote regions, and topographic features, such as in Afghanistan, where line-of-sight communications, and various air-to-air, air-to-ground, and ground-to-air communications were not available or effective. The communications failures highlighted in Operation RED WINGS (2005), and the death of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 2 others of his recon team, and 16 others who flew in on an MH-47 in an attempted rescue, drove home the fact that those communications limitations needed to be addressed and corrected, thus began the BACN mission.
