Took my cousin Shane and his girlfriend for a short sightseeing flight from Farmingdale to Montauk and then West Hampton for lunch. This was a perfect opportunity to land the SR-22 at a short field, which is something that I have not done that much.

  • Haven't been wheels down in a while but, gotta love MTP… short walk to the beach and restaurants for some fresh-caught seeeafood!

    • @Brian Danza Nice video , FRG again , you seem to visit on a regualr basis . MTP , is a nice place , the BBQ place right by the airport is great ..

    • The bravo floor above republic is 4000, so it's really easy to stay below it. You are outside the bravo a few miles north of the airport so there are no real restrictions. I flew up the north shore so that I would stay outside of the Islip charlie airspace.
we climbed up to 3500 and then came right back down for the flight.

    • You’re all good! Do enjoy watching your stuff and picking up items to add to my own flow. Currently grounded way over in Little Rock after an alt2 failure on the way to Pensacola (2R4) from Boston (KBED).

    • Thanks about the landing, I was trying to nail speed and touchdown point on that one. I'm weary of short runways in a Cirrus… the 182 will stop anywhete. As for the gopros I have two hero 4 with two extra batteries and an external charger, so I usually replace them during the flight if it's more than 90 minutes. The session I just plug in for ten minutes to top it off if it's inside, if it's on the wing I only turn it on during key moments with my app.

    • Brian Danza Makes sense, thanks for the info. Yeah I had to check the chart supplement and I guess 2900’ counts as short field for the SR22.

  • You weren’t flying a drone near an airport, you were flying on the airport! What steps did you take to ensure the safety of other pilots?

  • NICE! Ive been dying to fly out to KMTP. I know theres a landing fee but the airport is unattended in the winter, does that mean its free? haha
